Wines

Mount Fair is blessed with seven acres which are ideally suited for growing grapes.

Situated on a ridge which gently slopes to the southeast, our vineyard receives the morning sun and prevailing mountain breezes which help to minimize the vine’s retention of moisture from dew and rainfall.

Historically, Bordeaux varieties have flourished in our area of the Monticello wine region so that is what we planted: Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

2017 Petit Verdot – A single varietal with deep color and violet reflections. Our first vintage for this grape variety. This wine shows aromas of truffle, olive, stone fruit, rosemary, chocolate, toast, leather. A rich, round wine with soft gentle tannins. Aging potential 3 to 5 years.

2017 Merlot – A single varietal Merlot from a great vintage. A classic Merlot with notes of chocolate, coco, wild strawberry, ripe red fruit, black cherry, tomato paste, menthe, and lavender. A full body wine with a delicious soft elegant finish showing silky tannins. Aging potential 3 to 5 years. I would recommend opening it an hour before it is served as it will show his full potential and complexity. A delicious wine.

2018 Paddock Ridge Red Blend – This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot exhibits notes of white pepper, raspberry, sour cherry, tobacco, sarsaparilla, and licorice. A well-balanced wine with a medium body and a pleasantly dry finish. Aging potential is 2 to 3 years.

2019 Petit Verdot – From an exceptional vintage, this Petit Verdot has a very deep, inky color with orange and purple reflections. It shows notes of chocolate, roasted chestnut, flint, graphite, rose, violet, coconut, and vanilla. A beautifully long, round, rich and complex wine with elegant tannins. A fantastic wine. Aging potential 5 to 10 years.

2019 Meritage – Beautiful warm red color with orange reflections. This wine exhibits aromas of black pepper, tobacco, camphor, red cherry, raspberry, almond and lavender. Elegant, round, it offers a very long, balanced structure and a very delicate finish. Aging potential is 3 to 5 years, possibly up to 8/10. I would recommend opening it an hour before it is served as it will show his full potential and complexity.

Most of our grapes are sold to Virginia winemakers; however, we typically keep enough to fill a barrel with each of our three varieties.

Working with our gifted Vineyard Consultant, Frantz Ventre, our winemakers at nearby Stinson Vineyards have produced outstanding wines for our family, friends and guests.

Scott, Rachel and Nathan at Stinson are wonderful partners and we recommend that you visit their winery.
